To provide our core service, we need to collect a minimal amount of data. Our goal is to collect only what is necessary to make Snip It work.
a. Uploaded Content
- Snips (Images): When you upload a screenshot, we store the image data on our secure servers.
- Metadata: We store basic metadata associated with the image, such as its width and height, and the timestamp of the upload.
b. Anonymous Usage Data
We use a locally stored API key in your browser to associate you with your uploads, allowing you to view your gallery of snips. This key is generated randomly and is not tied to your personal identity. We do not use tracking cookies for advertising.
2. How We Use Your Information
The information we collect is used exclusively for the following purposes:
To Provide the Service
Storing your image so we can generate a shareable link for it.
To Maintain the Service
Monitoring for errors and ensuring the stability of our infrastructure.
To Improve the Service
Analyzing aggregated, non-personal data (like total number of uploads) helps us understand usage and make Snip It better.
3. What We Deliberately Don't Collect
We believe in data minimization. We intentionally do not collect:
Personal Identifiable Information (PII)
We do not require you to create an account, so we do not collect your name, email address, or other personal details.
IP Addresses
We do not log the IP addresses of users who upload snips.
User Tracking Data
We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers that build profiles of your activity across the web.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
Your uploaded snips are not stored indefinitely. By default, snips are automatically deleted from our servers after 4 months. You can choose a shorter expiration period when you upload a snip. Once deleted, the data is permanently removed from our systems.
5. Data Security
We take the security of your data seriously. All uploaded content is stored on secure servers, and we use industry-standard measures to protect it from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. Snips are accessed via unique, non-sequential, and hard-to-guess URLs.
